Miniserie dividida en varios episodios sobre la conquista de América. La trama incluye eventos importantes, como la fiebre de oro, la construcción del ferrocarril transcontinental y la masacre de nativos americanos en Wounded Knee. Con escenarios naturales fantásticos de cielos infinitos, valles y montañas multicolores y estruendosas estampidas de búfalos, aproximadamente 250 personajes interpretados por conocidos actores como Tom Berenger, Beau Bridges, Josh Brolin, Keith Carradine, Jessica Capshaw, Matthew Modine, Keri Russell, Skeet Ulrich y Matthew Settle se enfrentan a los grandes retos y tribulaciones de la época. La serie trata de presentar dos perspectivas del Viejo Oeste: por un lado el esfuerzo de los estadounidenses blancos por conquistar más terrenos, y por otro la lucha de los nativos indígenas por conservar sus valores y tradiciones a costa de la propia vida. Steven Spielberg es el productor de "Into the West", que contó con un presupuesto de nada menos que 50 millones de dólares.
