Human Traffic bill debate today
The Lower House will today seek to pass as law the Human Traffic bill that has already been sanctioned by the Senate. The Criminal Family and Budget Legislation committees yesterday unanimously cleared the text, which increases the severity of punishment for human-trafficking crimes.
CFK meets with church
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met last night with the Episcopal Synod, led by Archbishop José María Arancedo. It was reported that she would later meet with the DAIA Jewish association.
Macri criticized over ABL
Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri’s decision to raise City maintenance taxes was intensely criticized by members of the government yesterday. Deputy Juan Cabandié (Victory Front) considered Macri’s apology over the issue to have been “shameful,” and agreed with City Auditor Eduardo Epszteyn that “Macri lies about the ABL, because it has no corollary with inflation.”
Barletta plays down march involvement
Despite Ricardo Alfonsín’s declarations to the contrary, Radical leader Mario Barletta clarified yesterday that his party was “not going to the December 19 march” on Plaza de Mayo as part of the protest organized by Hugo Moyano and Pablo Micheli, although the “Radical Workers Organization,” linked to the UCR, will be in attendance.
Carrió to run for Congress
Deputy Elisa Carrió announced yesterday that she will return to the Civic Coalition to run for Congress in Buenos Aires City in the 2013 midterm elections. Carrió was practically forced into retirement and gave up the leadership of the Civic Coalition after she won less than two percent of the vote in last year’s presidential elections.
