The fields with rich soil, which does not flood, are covered by fine grasses kept short by cattle, horses and sheep grazing. You find here thistle, a typical pampas image, despite its European origin.
Where soil is poorer and floods, grasses are tougher as for example the huge Pampas Grass of white panicle.
Grassland habitat is home for the Southern Lapwings (Tero), Burrowing Owl, Field Flicker, Guira Cuckoos, Correndera Pipit, Spotted Nothura (tinamou), Rufous Collared Sparrow, Grassland Yellow-Finch, Whistling Heron, Great Pampas Finch, White Browed Blackbird. Other animals include Pampas Cavy, European Hare, Black and White Tegu Lizards
