When the wild pampas turned into cattle fields and cropland, settlers planted the first trees as the area was originally treeless. Eucalyptus trees form the main mass of cultivated forests seen at present, also casuarines, poplars, china berries, sicomores, and conifers (cedars, pines, Cyprus, araucarias). Oldest trees are around 120 years old, and not more.
The thorny tala, a native tree forming forests near the River Plate, also grows in cultivated forests. Many birds adopted this new habitat and you can find Rufous Ovenbird, Chimango and Crested Caracaras, Roadside Hawk, Golden Breasted Woodpecker, Monk Parakeet, Picazuro Pigeon, Narrow Billed Woodcreeper, Great Kiskadee, Black Hooded Sisikin
