Oasis fue una banda británica de rock formada en Mánchester en 1991. Inicialmente conocida como The Rain, la banda estaba formada por el cantante Liam Gallagher, el guitarrista Paul Arthurs, el bajista Paul McGuigan y el baterista Tony McCarroll, a los que más tarde se uniría como compositor y guitarrista principal el hermano mayor de Liam, Noel Gallagher.


Debido a las 11 millones de copias vendidas de su álbum debut Definitely Maybe, a las 26 millones de copias vendidas de su segundo álbum (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, y al hecho de que su tercer álbum Be Here Now se convirtiera en el disco que más rápido se vendiera en la historia del Reino Unido con 420.000 copias vendidas sólo en el día de su salida, Oasis es considerado uno de los más grandes conjuntos musicales de su país, habiendo entrado varias veces en el Libro Guinness de los récords (actualmente siguen conservando uno de ellos). También llevaron publicados 33 sencillos, de los cuales 9 de ellos alcanzaron el puesto nº1 de las listas británicas, y 2 de ellos el puesto nº1 de las listas estadounidenses.


Los hermanos Gallagher fueron los líderes y compositores de la banda, han vendido más de 80 millones de copias a nivel mundial, y hasta antes de la separación de la banda fueron los únicos miembros originales. Fueron reconocidos también por sus constantes peleas entre sí y con otras bandas y artistas, como Blur y Robbie Williams, las cuales les generaron múltiples apariciones en la prensa sensacionalista. Tras la partida de Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan y más tarde la de Alan White, la alineación final se completaría con el guitarrista Gem Archer, el bajista Andy Bell y el baterista Chris Sharrock.


En el año 2007, la banda fue galardonada con el BRIT Award por su "notable contribución a la música". Dig Out Your Soul, su último álbum, vio su lanzamiento a principios de octubre de 2008.

El 28 de agosto de 2009, tras una discusión entre los hermanos Gallagher, Noel decidió abandonar la banda poniendo fin a una era. En diciembre del mismo año Liam anunció que continuarían grabando sin Noel.9 Luego de varias especulaciones la banda cambia su nombre por el de Beady Eye.


Oasis es conocido en el mundo por ser pionero en los géneros Britpop e Indie Rock, junto con grupos como Blur, The Verve; estos estilos eran muy populares en los jóvenes en los años 90's. La primera canción que el publico mundial aclamó fue Supersonic; después la canción que los llevó a la fama mundial fue Wonderwall.

Luego, su otro gran éxito fue Stand by me, aclamada por todos los jóvenes por ser una canción con gran estilo Britpop; otro de sus más grandes éxitos es Don't Look Back In Anger cantada por Noel Gallagher. Estos dos hermanos crecieron en una familia humilde; ambos son fanáticos del Manchester City y frecuentan muchas veces el estadio; además los Gallagher describen a la ciudad de Manchester como muy desolada y aburrida.
